Price range: £35.88 through £45.63

SKU: N/A

Strunox™ 316 Grade Adjustable Force Stainless Steel Gas Struts, also known as variable force gas struts, are designed for applications where the required force is unknown. The gas strut pressure can easily be adjusted to suit your application, making them ideal for new projects.

If you already know the exact force and length of your old strut, a Fixed Force Gas Strut is the more reliable replacement, and you can find it here.

How do I adjust the pressure?

The Strunox™ 316 Grade Adjustable Force Stainless Steel Gas Struts come pre-set to a maximum force of 700N (M6 threads).

The force can be adjusted by releasing pressure, allowing you to find the correct force for your application. Pressure is released via the grub screw on the neck of the gas strut using a 2mm Allen key.

  1. Insert the Allen key into the grub screw.
  2. Turn counterclockwise gently for a second at a time.
  3. Test the gas strut in your application.
  4. Repeat if needed until the desired pressure is reached.

Please note: once the pressure has been released, it cannot be reversed and your strut will need to be refilled.

How do I know if enough pressure is released?

Release pressure gradually and test the gas strut after each adjustment. Do not over-release. If the application feels too stiff, release slightly more pressure. The strut is correctly adjusted when it operates smoothly while providing the required level of support.

What do the sizes mean?

Every Strunox™ strut is listed by its extended length. Please view the table below for the stroke length of each size.

Extended Length Thread Rod Tube Stroke Tube Length Force (N)
250mm M6 8mm 18mm 100 150 700
350mm M6 8mm 18mm 150 200 700
450mm M6 8mm 18mm 200 250 700
550mm M6 8mm 18mm 250 300 700
650mm M6 8mm 18mm 300 350 700

How do I measure the adjustable gas strut length?

If replacing an existing strut, measure the original length from centre-to-centre of the end fittings.

For new applications, measure the distance between mounting points when fully extended and compressed positions to determine the strut length and stroke.

That centre to centre figure is not the size you order. Your fittings add length at both ends, so subtract them:

Centre to centre, minus both end fittings, equals the strut length you need.

Example: if you measure 486mm centre to centre and you are using eyelets at both ends, 486 – 18 – 18 = 450mm strut.

What happens if the length I require isn’t available?

It is recommended that for a replacement strut, a like for like product should be used, as using a different length can lead to the application not functioning correctly.

What end fittings will I need?

If replacing an existing strut, select the same end fittings currently in use. For new applications, please select the end fitting that matches your desired mounting points.

All Strunox™ end fittings are made from 316 stainless steel and screw onto the M6 thread at either end.
