Strunox™ 316 Grade Fixed Force Stainless Steel Gas Struts are used to replace struts that are worn out or failed. Fixed force gas struts are only suitable for applications where the original force, length and end fittings are known.
If you don’t know the force of your old strut, or this is a new application, use an Adjustable Gas Strut instead, which you can find here.
What do the sizes mean?
Every Strunox™ strut is listed by its extended length. Please view the table below for the stroke length of each size.
| Extended Length | Thread | Rod | Tube | Stroke | Tube Length | Force (N) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 250mm | M6 | 8mm | 18mm | 100 | 150 | 50 – 800 |
| 350mm | M6 | 8mm | 18mm | 150 | 200 | 50 – 800 |
| 450mm | M6 | 8mm | 18mm | 200 | 250 | 50 – 800 |
| 550mm | M6 | 8mm | 18mm | 250 | 300 | 50 – 800 |
| 650mm | M6 | 8mm | 18mm | 300 | 350 | 50 – 800 |
How do I measure the gas strut length?
If replacing an existing strut, measure the original length from centre-to-centre of the end fittings.
That centre to centre figure is not the size you order. Your fittings add length at both ends, so subtract them.
Example: if you measure 486mm centre to centre and you are using 18mm eyelets at both ends, 486 – 18 – 18 = 450mm strut.
Can I replace my gas strut with a stainless steel fixed force strut?
If you know the exact length and force of your old strut, the fixed force gas struts are the most reliable solution. The force rating should be written on the body of the old strut. Find the part number and locate where the force rating is listed in Newtons (e.g., 400N).
What if the force is not visible on my old strut?
If you are unable to locate a force rating by either the label stating number and followed by N (Newton), do not guess. Use a Strunox™ 316 Grade Stainless Steel Adjustable Force Gas Strut, as this will allow you to control the force you require within the struts.
What happens if the length I require isn’t available?
We stock struts from 250mm to 650mm only. It is recommended that for a replacement strut, a like for like product should be used, as using a different length can lead to the application not functioning correctly.
What end fittings will I need?
If replacing an existing strut, select the same end fittings currently in use. For new applications, please select the end fitting that matches your desired mounting points.
All Strunox™ end fittings are made from 316 stainless steel and screw onto the M6 thread at either end.
